“On any given day, a market professional will hear several rumours about a wide range of subjects. Some rumours will be of no relevance to the price or market for a financial product. Others, if they were true, could be materially relevant.”
Relation to financial products
This CPD course discusses how rumours should be handled within a professional environment, in particular the potential dangers inherent in discussing rumours in relation to financial products and some guidelines to assist in appropriately handling or discussing rumours.
We look at the various types of rumours – including “fake news”, rumourtrage and misleading statements – and discuss the best ways to recognise and deal with these.
We use examples from recent news headlines and local cases to emphasise the importance of the issue. Industry knowledge and overall comprehension is reinforced by short and independent research activities and practical scenarios presented throughout the course.
